Elul Day 27 - New Life
Every year at Rosh HaShanah, as the shofar cries out, we celebrate the re-birth of the entire universe. This re-birth gives us new power to create a great year as we continue to look up and strive to be like the One who created it all.
Every new moon reminds us that life is being renewed. Every night we awaken to a new day. The possibilities of each new day are before us, and we decide what the day will be like.
- We choose our words.
- We choose our attitudes.
- We choose what work our hands will do.
- We choose to love or to hate.
- We choose to unify or separate.
- We choose to praise or to complain.
The Lord gives us the power to choose afresh every day, month, and year.
Deuteronomy 30:15-19
'See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish…
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live.'
